How to deal with journalists

Dealing with the media is something you should not take for granted. Especially if you are a researcher, and your work needs visibility but is hard to explain to the masses. In this case, media can be either your worst enemy or your best friend, and you certainly prefer friends. This is the assumption at the basis of the session “Making the most of the Media”, organized by Susanna Thorp, director of WRENmedia, during Day 1 at Share Fair 2010.
The big deal about blogs
Day 0 at Share Fair 2010, a day dedicated to learn more about Social Media. The session started with this nice video “for people who wonder why blogs are such a big deal”:

And they are a big deal: 133.000.000 blogs indexed by Technocrati since 2002, 346.000.000 blog readers globally, 77% of active internet users reading blogs, these numbers tell us that blogs are a powerful channel to communicate with the outer world.
So how can we use them? What should we write on them? How can we make the most of our blogs, so that they get read and commented?
